Inauguration of “Our Farm” In Siffoe Village
A Dutch cyclist and Philanthropist Nic Van Der Riet, who sponsores 72 students in The Gambia, has recently inaugurated a new farm in Siffoe village called “Our Farm”, with the Theme: “Empower Youth Through Agricultural Activities To End Irregular Migration.
This project was initiated by Nic and few young Gambians, who are passionate about agriculture.
Speaking at the ceremony, Nic Van Der Riet highlighted the significance of agriculture, saying this project will go a long way in enabling The Gambia to attain its food security goals. Teach the public about the importance of farming and empower young people through agriculture to end irregular migration.
According to him, “Our Farm” comprises of innovative minds poised to make a difference in the area of agriculture. “We have recently embarked on plantation of trees and our products are expected to be sold both in the country and beyond” he stated.
He praised Youth Entrepreneurs Project (YEP) for partnering with them, thanking his friends from The Netherlands and The Gambia for gracing the occasion.
Madam Isatou Ndow, the Vice Principal of Gambia College, praised Nic and his partners for coming up with such a brilliant initiative to contribute to the development of agriculture in the country.
Salieu Jammeh, Manager of “Our Farm”, said this project is meant to enhance young people’s skills through agriculture by effectively engaging them to ending Irregular Migration in the country.
The inauguration ceremony featured a performance by the Scout Band and Cultural Group from Siffoe. It was graced by school children, partners and friends of Nic from The Gambia and The Netherlands.
