Franck Kessie to Spurs transfer ruled out as Antonio Conte ‘expects’ Adama Traore signing soon

Tottenham are expected to supply Antonio Conte with “at least” one or two signings before the January deadline passes, but one of those isn’t expected to be Franck Kessie.

The Lilywhites, who suffered another routine defeat at the hands of Chelsea on Sunday, are in line for a busy end to the month with incomings at outgoings expected to happen in N17 over the next few days.

“Honestly, I prefer to speak about this topic always with the club. For sure, I made evaluations about the squad but I have spoken with the club and I hope the club will listen to me,” the Italian serial winner updated in his pre-Chelsea press conference regarding the transfer situation.

With the likes of Giovani Lo Celso, Tanguy Ndombele and Dele Alli being tipped for moves away, another midfielder is certainly on the agenda and Kessie is a player who Conte knows well from his time in Italy.

However, as have already reported, the Africa Cup of Nations currently complicates the feasibility of seeing such a transfer pulled off at this late stage.

Ivory Coast are in Round of 16 action against Egypt on Wednesday and the AC Milan star will be away until Sunday, February 6 if his country make it to the final of the competition.

While a January move would be appealing to his club this month as there is the real prospect of him leaving for nothing at the end of June due to his contract status, there is a belief that the player would prefer to wait until the summer to try and win the Serie A title with his club and also then maximise the money he would make from his next contract.

This sentiment has been shared by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, who has now ruled out the possibility of the Ivorian leaving Italy this month upon the return from AFCON.

He said on the well known fan channel The United Stand regarding the 25-year-old’s immediate future: “Talking about Kessie, he’s not going to Tottenham in January.

“But, he’s one of the names that we have to still wait and see what happens in the summer as he still has no agreement in place with AC Milan to extend his contract.

“But I do expect Tottenham to do something this week as Antonio Conte is pushing to have new signings.

“They need outgoings but it is the same with Man United and with so many other clubs.”

Next up on the agenda and a player who is likely to seal a north London switch in the next few days is Wolves’ Adama Traore who Conte has long admired since his days managing Chelsea.

As reported by last week, talks have been continuing between the two clubs and there is a confidence that the deal will eventually be concluded for Traore, who is believed to be keen on a move to Tottenham.

The player did appear to be saying his goodbyes after Wolves’ game against Brentford on Saturday, thus hinting that a move to Tottenham could soon come to fruition.

And Romano expects this deal to be completed soon with talks resuming after the initial rejection from the Molineux-based club.

“Talking about Tottenham, they need outgoings,” Romano reiterated.

“So, Ndombele to Paris Saint-Germain and maybe Dele Alli will leave in the next few days and this is why I expect them to go for Adama Traore.

“They are working to sign him from Wolverhampton – talks are progressing also today. So, I think there are good chances for Tottenham to sign at least one or two players.

“A midfielder, a winger with Adama and maybe another player if they have an opportunity on deadline day or on Sunday to do a final signing.

“But, I expect Tottenham do two signings, I can say.”
