Hazyview is a special spot – the pace is a little slower, the folk a little friendlier, and the Kruger National Park quite a lot closer (only about 20 minutes away, to be exact). This little farming town in Mpumalanga is known for its macadamia nut, avocado pear and banana farms too, thanks to the subtropical climate.
We’ve put together a few of our favourite places to sleep, restaurants to eat and things to do during your time in Hazyview …
SLEEP IN HAZYVIEW
This luxurious country hotel is on an avo and macadamia farm, and the farmstead dates back to the 1800’s.
Talk about romantic…Each suite has a log fireplace, aircon and beautiful finishings. The two Executive Suites even have an outdoor shower and a private sauna. The five-course dinners are served in a spectacular setting and are paired with exquisite wines.
Plumbago Guest House is reminiscent of times past, when days were punctuated by afternoon teas and homes were infused with the rich colour of authentic mahogany.
This Hazyview country retreat is deliciously indulgent and guests can look forward to feeling like they are miles away from the real world, but right on the doorstep of some of Mpumalanga’s most wonderful attractions.
The luxury tented suites of Summerfields are just perfect for couples that want to immerse themselves in a little opulence and romance.
They are under the trees, right on the banks of the Sabie River on a fruit and nut farm. Although they’re completely luxurious, there’s a distinctly laid-back vibe here that makes it utterly relaxing.
Each of the chalets at this gorgeous lodge in Hazyview sleeps up to eight people (with a maximum of six adults).
They are air-conditioned, and have spacious loft bedrooms and pretty views of the dam or forest. Each has a well-equipped kitchen too, perfect for groups that are on a self-catering holiday near the world-renowned safaris of the Kruger National Park.
Relax around the infinity pool, explore the local walking trails, or head to the Kruger National Park to make the most of exclusive Abangane.
Each of the elegant rooms has impressive views of the African bush, a spacious veranda, and aircon. The Honeymoon Suite has a few extras, including a corner spa bath.
You can’t get much better than this – a luxurious African lodge, nestled in the forests on the slopes of the Sabie River Valley in Hazyview. Just perfect.
These inviting chalets each has a waterfall shower and tub, a log fireplace, mosquito netting and ceiling fans. This is all about pure and utter comfort.
Looking for a cute romantic getaway for two or a spot for a family vacation? The chalets at Tranquil Nest are ideal.
There’s a shared swimming pool and each chalet has aircon, satellite TV and a braai. Some also have their own jacuzzi or hot tub. Tranquil Nest is a gorgeous base from which to explore the Panorama Route.
Although it’s easier on the pocket, this lodge still offers all of the comforts and conveniences that make a holiday special.
There are rooms and tented suites, each with its own charm and appeal. Little ones can enjoy the playground while parents enjoy massages, visit the fitness centre, relax in the swimming pool or enjoy an authentic South African braai.
This small family-run lodge boasts a swimming pool, garden, pub and restaurant; but retains its tranquil ambience.
Each of the inviting rooms is well-equipped and has impressive views of the escarpment. There’s a playground for children, complete with a cycle track and jumping castle.
These homely cottages sleep between two and seven people just minutes away from the Kruger National Park.
They’re in a renovated tobacco barn and the setting is absolutely gorgeous, making it ideal for a picturesque getaway and some of the best photo backdrops.
EAT OUT IN HAZYVIEW
South Africa is renowned for its awesome food and fresh ingredients. Hazyview is home to so many of the well known franchises and fast-food spots (including KFC, Nando’s and Wimpy). But, it’s also home to other exciting restaurants that are lovely for a romantic meal for two or a feast or the whole family.
For a special meal (especially a perfectly done steak) in a sophisticated setting, head to Pioneer’s Grill at the Perry’s Bridge Tourist Centre. Kuka offers a combination of delicious cocktails, craft beers, sushi, tapas and innovative meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks) in a contemporary café setting.
The Shangaan River Club is a festive venue in a thatched boma and celebrates South African and Shangaan cuisine. Traditional favourites are served in cast iron pots for a really authentic experience.
