The cause of the inferno is yet to be established but the late response of Gambia’s Emergency Response Team and the Fire Rescue Services were said to be largely criticized for “inadequate response”.
An eye witness who spoke to this platform in a condition of anonymity, narrated that the Emergency Team came with empty tankers to the scene and had to again rush back to the river to fetch water while fire burning the area.
The Rescue Team according to an eye witness, were not safely armed to gain access into the raving fires to rescue workers whom might be trapped inside the factories.
GM24 TV is following up events at the country’s main referral hospital EFTS which lies few kilometres off Kanifing Industrial Estate for any possible losses/damages to human lives as reports have it, victims were being rushed there. The fire outbreak lasted for much over four hours before been put out.
